Stable Panorama Photo Stitcher Hugin Is Ready for General Use

Panorama Tools (PanoTools) by the German professor Helmut Derch is probably the most popular Open Source software which is a collection of the most powerful panorama photo stitcher today, releasing newer and updated versions as often as possible. Hugin right here is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) front-ends for the PanoTools. It is also an HDR merging program developed mainly by Pablo d'Angelo. Hugin by design is a panorama photo stitcher. It stitches overlapping images of the same subject, aligns them, process, and blend the images to create a beautiful panorama. It uses control points between two images and displays a preview window for users to check before the actual stitching process begins. It is also known for its perfect assembly of mosaic images into an immersive panorama.

On the other hand, its HDR functions allow users to a greater range of luminance in an image. Say for example, sun light or evening light. It basically gives realistic lighting to an image as it can auto-correct exposure, Vignetting, and White balance between photos.

The Hugin panorama photo stitcher supports any kind of photo, either taken digital or scanned, from camera phones or from fisheye camera lenses. Also, photos with or without bracketing are widely supported.

Linear Panorama with Hugin

The Hugin is another panorama photo stitcher suitable and beneficial to 360-degree, product photography, panoramic and/or virtual tour photography. Here’s tidbits of information on how to make a linear panorama with Hugin.

You need to take a series of images of the same location moving sideways about 1 meter after each shot. Tripods are recommended but then again, optional. Here are the software you should need:

Hugin v0.5rc1, panorama photo stitcher
Autopano-SIFT v1.4, this is to control and arrange the right photos adjacent to others.
The GIMP v2.2, for layering.
