Dubbed as one of the five places for photography buffs by the San Fransisco Chronicle, the Camera Obscura at the Cliff House in CA, USA is an old school camera system that provides 360-degree scenery of its surrounding. Camera Obscura is the latin word for dark room and it's ironic how bright and amazing its captures are. Jack and Beverly Wilgus are both fans of this system. They described in their blog that, "The small building is decorated to look like a giant 35mm camera with its lens pointing to the sky."You shouldn't be fooled by its outer design. See for yourself, friends! Â
How does the Camera Obscura work? The giant Camera Obscura was listed in the U.S. National Register Of Historical Places in 2001. It is a rare device inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's 15th century design. Light simple enters a revolving hood on top of a building, passing through a lens through an angled mirror. The images are then projected onto a 9 foot diameter horizontal dished projection screen table for visitors to see as long as they want. Â
It's not 3D, it's not a video, it's live. Visitors are expected to enjoy a panoramic view of the Seal Rock area of Ocean Beach and other holographic images for $3 admission fee. Most people find this simple lens and prism, but for 360 degree panoramic photography professionals and enthusiasts, it's more like hyper-reality!  Â
