When we hear Kinect, automatically we think of playing bandminton, boxing, golf, and other interactive games on Wii. They have pulled off a great sale in the past years winning different awards in the industry. This year however, there is no stopping to this winning streak as Microsoft Kinect partners with Boeing to promote more than 700 airplanes.
The immersive Boeing 737 experience, using Microsoft Kinect on Windows 7 “If we look at all the approaches that we use to communicate about the 737, most of them are very analytical, enabling us to talk about the financial operating costs, maintenance costs and other attributes,” Diana Klug, Director of Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said in a statement. “We wanted to take the marketing for the 737 to the next level, and the set of tools that we had did not allow us to convey the full range of new features and improvements that we’ve made to the product.” Experience the 360-degree Boeing experience here! Utilizing Microsoft technologies and high-resolution cameras, Wire Stone, Boeing's designated digital marketing agency for this project created an immersive 360-degree online experience for users to navigate latest generation aircrafts. This interactive Boeing experience is powered by Windows Azure, Silverlight Deep Zoom and a 17-gigapixel image and other high imagig digital technology. The end result from more than 20,000 frames is so large that is considered to be awarded for a world record as the “largest compound photograph of a single object.” Although even with this high end promotional campaign from Beoing, the aircraft company still made efforts to market their aircrafts in person. They do plan for different trade shows and different marketing settings but also their promotional team creatively organized a modern version of an application on Windows 7 that uses Microsoft’s Kinect sensor. According to Wire Stone, "We call this our first known commercial use of Kinect in a line-of-business application." This engaging application allows users to navigate different aircraft controls providing that pilot feeling in control. Users stand back from the sceen and gesture to control the different Boeing planes.
