Nikon, one of 3sixty’s favourite brands of camera will be launching a new rugged camera called NIKON AW100.

Although not officially announced, this camera will for sure beat off Olympus’s compact cameras and Panasonic’s FT3 with its high tech features with built-in global positioning system technology. The AW100 is said to be (10m deep) waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof. In their press release last week, Nikon publicized their first ever rugged camera that can take both 180 and 360-degree images which users can pan around interactively. It’s panoramic functions allows users to take series of images and the camera automatically stitches them for easy pano panning across the screen. Additionally, the AW100 from Nikon has an electronic compass and built map allowing users fast geotagging function on images, orientation in unfamiliar surroundings, or on the go route tracking.

The camera uses a high sensitivity mode to capture the action in low-light and also features a maximum ISO of 3200. A 5x Wide Angle Zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens (35mm equivalent of 28-140mm) is supported by Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) tech and there is a 3-inch, LCD screen with Clear Color Display and anti-reflective coating so you can see what you are doing.

The AW100 is as tough as the user that needs it, and it offers a sturdy exterior and advanced technology that enables users to capture life’s triumphant moments.”
