The Ash Ranges becomes an instant national attraction as group of photographers subject to create a 360-degree panorama of the said heather-strewn wildlife. Most people think of this as military grounds and a useless deserted place, however this group of panorama professionals think otherwise. Get a view of the Ash Ranges here!
Spearheaded by Mike McFarlane, this one-year photography project is in response to Wildlife Trusts conservation-inspired visual arts projects. Mike has been doing 360-degree panoramas of different sceneries all over the country and to make one for the Ash Ranges is a long time dream. This 360-degree view of the Ash ranges will interactively provide a different impression of the country’s natural world; hopefully to provide better awareness and sensitivity towards nature. According to James Adler, Trust’s Graxing Manager, “I hoped the photography project would ultimately help to shape people’s priorities and views on the areas of natural environment right on their doorstep. We believe this project will help to illustrate how closely nature ties in with the way we live our lives.” He also mentioned that, “Mike has been cycling thousands of miles, highlighting the importance of wildlife moving freely through our countryside – something it needs to be able to do if it is to adapt to climate change. We very much enjoyed his visit to Ash Ranges.”
About the Ash Ranges The Ash Ranges are an area of heathland in Surrey bordered by Ash to the South, Aldershot, Ash Vale and Mytchett to the weest and Pirbright to the east. The ranges are in active use by the army but normally open to the public after approx 3pm most days and all day on bank holiday weekends, although opening times and dates do vary.
