Thanks to Google that people from wherever in the world can see Cornwall’s newest recreation facility: Benson Centre. People can now take a tour Benson Centre’s  3 NHL sized rinks, filed house with walking track, Tennis and Multi-sport courts, community room, and their public skating activities via Google Earth. A program that supports mapping, high resolution photography and satellite imagery, Google Earth certainly displays amazing three dimensional views of the facility.

This concept in digital and online photography is highly beneficial to the real estate and property industry especially in times of product presentations and tours. In fact, the virtual representation of the Benson Centre was created just by using SketchUp, a popular 3D authoring tool (again) by Google to create a 3D model of the building using series of digital images taken. The advantages of 3D photography of properties are far beyond useful and promising. According to GIS Specialist with the City's Municipal Works Department Denis Lalonde, “By adding the Benson Centre to Google Earth, we're helping to showcase this wonderful new facility to the world. Tourism and economic development opportunities are enhanced with every Cornwall building rendered in 3D in Google Earth. The software can also serve as a great planning and development tool as you can visualize proposed developments in 3D. The world is in 3D after all. Our goal is to add more City-owned buildings to Google Earth in the future. The more buildings we add, the larger the profile Cornwall will have on Google Earth. With millions of people using the program every day, the potential is amazing." "

The Benson Centre is not the only one in line for 3D photography, Cornwall Tourism Office said. “In fact, the École secondaire publique L'Héritage on Montreal Road has also been rendered in 3D and added to Google Earth.” Mr. Lalonde invitingly said, “Any building can be submitted for inclusion. It doesn't have to be a landmark building like a hospital or library, although those would be nice to have as well.”
