Barco’s Futuristic 360 Degree Flight Stimulator

With Barco’s RP-360 immersive flight stimulator, anyone can surely learn how to fly an airplane in a day!

With the most accurate image quality and only system to offer full 360° immersion with rear projection in today’s market, Barco’s flight stimulator is a combination of 14 pieces of 10-megapixel projectors to create a 360-degree panorama video exhibition dome. It is almost 13 feet high featuring virtual images inbound from up to 12 virtual clicks away.

More of Barco’s 360 degree flight stimulator features are the following:

ü DynaColor: automatic color calibration across channels

ü Linked constant light output: brightness equalization across channels

ü Edge blending: creates one seamless composite image

ü Warping: precise geometry correction for curved surfaces

ü Smearing reduction: handles fast-moving imagery effortlessly

According to Geert Matthys, R&D Manager, “It’s not an improvement; it’s a new generation of simulators. If a pilot has a cockpit where he can see 360 degrees, he also needs to be trained in a system which supplies 360 degrees, all deviation from real life can be dangerous.”

We have heard that Israeli Air Force ordered 8 of these giant stimulators from Barco. This is to train the entire Israeli Squadrons in aerial refuelling and air fight. Great for them because Barco’s 360-degree flight stimulator is flexible for day and night, 24/7 featuring a high contrast, infra-red optimizations with the help of night vision goggles.

Other thing to consider about Barcos’s Flight Stimulator is that it is easily maintained. No matter how complicated its creation is, Barco has made it to the point where the 360 degree flight stimulator can be easily pulled and pushed out of the way. In addition, the stimulator’s LDAT or laser diode array tracker helps the projection be mapped.
