As experts say, the 360 degree technology started to become popular around late 2006. It is only in the late 2008 until present that most industry especially in the business world demands for it. This is basically because 360 photography gives viewers every detail of a certain product – left, right, front, back, top and bottom. Additionally, most users find this very impressive because it brings them on the spot. It allows them to control what they want. Giving them the opportunity to experience the product before even purchasing, 360 degree photography is highly regarded by shoppers. Apparently, these are the same reasons why other industries try to incorporate 360 degree technology in their fields. This effective and very affordable tool has definitely revolutionized education, medication, visitations, and now, crime scene investigation.
Although it was in the year 2009 that the New York City Police Station Department began using 360 degree technology via Panoscan, world’s fastest digital panoramic cameras. They were able to record different images of the crime scene being processed to become one seamless interactive 360 degree image that investigators can control and pan around the video. Investigators are able to point and click objects that are possible evidences. Investigators are able to restudy, refocus, and refresh what they have seen in the actual crime place.
However there are negative reactions to this technology in the crime investigation industry. According to a concerned citizen from New Jersey, “I predict this will turn out to be a fad. What belongs in the MOMA isn't necessarily the most helpful visual representation of a crime scene. The human eye (and brain) is accustomed to seeing the world in a certain way.”
Hi statement can be true but in all fairness, the 360 degree technology definitely help investigators look back and assess things differently. With 360 degree, lives will be changed and justice will surely be served.
