| Apple and Adobe development over using Flash |
|
Apple and Adobe have been at each other’s throat for quite some time now. The issue started when Apple refused to use Adobe’s Flash in any of its new products. This caused a great panic for not only Adobe but also those who had been using Flash due to its user friendly nature. On and off Apple has been highly critique of Adobe’s Flash and giving reasons for not using it. Apple’s founder Steve Job listed few reasons for not using flash with any of the Apple’s iPhones anymore as follow:
However, those who have bought the latest iPhone are finding it frustrating to browse the internet because most of the media and animation websites support Flash where as the Apple iPhones don’t. As a result the users see nothing but a blank box. In the beginning of this year it was heard that Adobe is developing new software whose main purpose is to provide act as a plug-in or a translator for Flash contents but due to recent changes the developers were stopped from developing the technology. When Jonathan Gary was asked for the reason for refusal to use Flash he implemented that it was to stop the monopoly that Flash was trying to play by dominating the mobile internet world. If they had been left unchecked then it is most likely that they would become “gatekeeper who controls the platform and gets a fee from all the transactions on the platform." As a result they were on the way of controlling the whole web media and animation market and becoming driving “very profitable business for Apple," For now Mr. Jobs have been putting great emphasis on using alternate web media solutions by HTML5. He says that HTML5 "lets web developers create advanced graphics, typography, animations and transitions without relying on third party browser plug-ins (like Flash). "HTML5 is completely open and controlled by a standards committee, of which Apple is a member." Most of us have been wondering about the alternatives that everyone has been talking about and the solution was handed to us by Mr. Jobs who said that whilst Adobe says that "75% of video on the web is in Flash", what they don't say is that "almost all this video is also available in a more modern format, H.264, and viewable on iPhones, iPods and iPads." Now this has really put a new perceptive to everything!!! |
