Have you ever visited and explored the zoo without leaving your home? You can possibly now after Google with their new three-wheeled pedi-cab pedals with 360-degree camera system on top ( since cars are not permitted on the zoo’s pathways) around exhibits collecting images in a one-mile radius around the zoo and even images of places that even the Trike couldn’t. Of course, it is still best to take yourself and the kids at the zoo physically but isn't it cool to have a virtual environment of the zoo otherwise?
Although Google have different challenges on their way specifically facing different prvacy cases, nothing can stop their 360-degree street view streak. Google spokesperson Deanna Yick said, “The Trike is about 250 pounds and is ridden through pedestrian walkways or trails to automatically gather images as it does. People often think that the Trike is an ice cream cart because of the compartments in the back.” Google was seen getting images of the 125-acre Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak earlier this month July 18-19.. Once these images are uploaded in Google's StreetView platform in order by location and link them to GPS in the coming months, users are to experience an amazing highly advanced zoo tour.
But why the zoo, you may ask. Actually Google had a nationwide contest back in 2009 asking Google users which places in the country they wuld most love to see. The Detroit Zoo won by over 15,000 votes.
However the task to capture all animals in the zoo is pretty challenging says Jody Harper, systems administrator at the zoo. She also said, "It happened to be two of the hottest days of the year. Animals do as we do in the heat. They want to lay around and sleep. So that’s what they were doing." Google360-degree camera systme have to come back around if the animals weren't visible. The Google team was lucky to have the elephants, rhinoceroses and tigers pretty active at the time, Harper added.
Before coming to the zoo, you can early prepare your tour as you can already see what it looks like and explore the famous Detroit zoo. Hurray Google!
