If you are an avid reader of 3sixty’s blog, great for you! You sure know by now how important it is for our group of people to see things in a different perspective – the ALL perspective, the 360 degree perspective. So this is to no surprise to you that we feature this amazing and creative project entitled “The 360 Project” by Ryan Enn Hughes.
What is The 360 Project? The 360 Project composes two films of different dances: Ballet 360 and Krump 360. Not only to project the art of dancing but mainly to establish that borderline that connects together and divides still photograpy and motion photography apart. Dancers were performing inside a circle of exactly 48 cameras that capture every movement of the dancers in all angles simultaneously, hence the 360. This project shows two different dances in different perspectives in technicalities, origin, movement, beauty and heartbeats. Ryan was able to portray the difference effectively through 360 degree motion photography which is quite a harder challenge in still photography.
According to Ryan to Wired.com, “Photographing in 360 degrees is a really appealing process. As a single photographer with a single lens, you are limited to a single angle of view. Photographing in 360 degrees allows you to capture every angle of view along an axis. With all angles photographed, the dominant variable in image making becomes the decisive moment. I think that's the appeal of the process." Later in his interview when asked what was his inspiration to create such strong 360 degree motion photography films, he said, “Like A Rolling Stone Music Video by Michel Gondry.” He was trying to figure out how the video was made and ended up with The 360 Project. “Before I was obsessed with photography, I was obsessed with music videos. I was really interested in the technical process that created the "frozen moments" that seemed to be "moving in three-dimensions"
